Top 8 Destinations to Visit in 2015

Want to travel more in 2015 but not sure where to go? Check out these 8 exciting destinations for some wanderlust inspiration!

Luang Prabang, Laos

I've noticed that Laos is often a missed country on the popular Southeast Asia circuit. It's a shame because Laos has so much to offer its visitors. Unlike its neighbours Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam, Laos has an authentic feel unaffected by tourists and western enterprise.

Situated along the scenic Mekong River, Luang Prabang is a UNESCO World Heritage City full of rolling hills, stunning waterfalls and ancient monasteries. You'll also find remnants of European architecture as the town was once a French colony. While you're here, be sure to check out the impressive Kuang Si waterfalls, take an authentic Laotian cooking class and climb to the top of Mount Phousi for a birds eye view of the lush greenery that surrounds Luang Prabang.

Reykjavik, Iceland

Iceland is becoming a hot travel destination and for good reason. It's one of the best places on Earth to experience Mother Nature at her finest. In the capital of Reykjavik, you'll have the opportunity to take in the spectacular Northern Lights, swim in the alluring Blue Lagoon (a massive geothermal spa), go whale watching, try your hand at ice climbing and so much more.

The popular HBO show, Game of Thrones, was also filmed here. If you're a big fan, consider booking a guided tour and explore some famous filming locations.

Galapagos Islands, Ecuador

Located 906 kilometres west of Ecuador, this untouched archipelago is where Charles Darwin developed his theory of evolution. In 1835, Darwin noticed that finches and tortoises differed between islands. Back in England, he analyzed his specimen of birds and discovered that there were numerous types of finches which were unique to each island. This breakthrough played an important part in Darwin's theory of natural selection which explains evolution.

Today, the Galapagos Islands is the perfect destination for travellers who want to get up close and personal with unique wildlife. Here, you'll spot a vast array of rare flora and fauna. You'll also come across tortoises, marine iguanas, penguins, fur seals, hawks and more. The wildlife here are so unaccustomed to humans that they aren't scared of anyone. You'll have the opportunity to have some unreal face-to-face encounters.

Barcelona, Spain

Forget Rome or Paris, Barcelona is the place to be! This is one city that caters to everyone's interests. For those who want to relax, beaches are just steps away from the city. If you love to party, you're in luck! Along the waterfront, you'll find a variety of swanky bars, clubs and lounges. Art enthusiasts also need to check out Museu Picasso, an art gallery that houses one of the most extensive collections of artworks by Pablo Picasso.

The best way to see Barcelona is by foot. Get lost in Las Ramblas, a bustling pedestrian walkway filled with shops, markets and restaurants. Also, don't forget to pay a visit to the famous Sagrada Família, an unfinished Roman Catholic church that began construction in 1882.

Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia

The Salar de Uyuni is the largest salt flat in the world and is located in southwest Bolivia. Thousands of years ago, the area was filled by a salt lake which eventually dried up. Today, this salt desert attracts thousands of photographers and tourists because of its unique landscape. In the dry season, the plains are covered in dry salt while the wet season brings a shallow sheet of water over the area. If you want to venture to this natural wonder, you'll need to book a tour and depart from either Uyuni or Tupiza.

Split, Croatia

Split is a city that perfectly balances tradition and modernity. Here, you'll get a taste of Dalmatian history as you take a stroll through the extravagant Diocletian's Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site. At the same time, you'll also discover trendy bars, restaurants and shops that line the paradisiacal waterfront. There are numerous marinas and ferry ports making Split the perfect starting point to explore nearby islands.

The best sailing tour to embark on is The Yacht Week. An unforgettable yachting experience that begins in Split, The Yacht Week takes enthusiastic millennials on a week long whirlwind adventure to some of the most breathtaking islands in Croatia including Hvar, Vis, Komiza and Stipanska. Check out my full Yacht Week experience here.

Bagan, Myanmar

Up until 2011, Myanmar was run by a strict military government who kept its doors closed to the world. Now, with tourism given the green light, adventurers can take the path less traveled and visit the ancient ruins of Bagan.

Bagan is truly a magical place. This archaic city houses the largest amount of Buddhist temples on the globe. Many of these structures even date back to the 11th century! It is estimated that there once were around 13,000 pagodas in the area. Today, approximately 2,200 still stand. Countless timeworn structures carpet the vibrant plains making it an unforgettable sight to take in.

Gobi Desert, Mongolia

Get off the beaten path and explore the vast Gobi Desert in Mongolia. Head to Gobi Gurvansaikhan National Park and confront snow leopards, Siberian ibexes and Argali sheep; all of which are endangered. You could also visit the Flaming Cliffs (red sandstone cliffs), which house fossilized dinosaur eggs and bones. To get your blood pumping, try sandboarding and glide down steep sand dunes.

Melissa Li

I’m a Canadian girl on a quest to step foot in every continent before I’m 30. You’ll most likely find me chowing down on Japanese ramen, partying at a music festival, hiking to the top of a scenic lookout, cuddling with cats, or chilling out at the beach. I’ve visited over 60 countries so far and hope to inspire you to do the same.

  1. Thanks for your suggestions on best visiting place over the world with your own experience. I also love to travel and enjoying the nature's beauty. From the above places I visit few places but I had great experience in Galapagos Island Cruises. Apart from that our tour guide was really entertaining us so much that we never accept whom we get from a touring guide company as "GALAPAGOS LAST MINUTE DEALS"
