Craziness Unleashed at the Full Moon Party

If you know me then you know I live for the party. For years, Koh Phangan's infamous Full Moon Party has been on my bucket list waiting patiently to be checked off.

For those of you who don't know what the Full Moon Party is, imagine a beach packed with 20,000 to 30,000 people. Now add buckets of strong ass cocktails, countless stages, blaring dance music and neon body paint. What you get is an out of this world party that lasts until morning.

Once a month, eager partygoers flock to the shores of Haad Rin Beach for a night to remember (or not).

Before leaving our hostel, we made sure to stock up on neon clothes, flower headbands and coated ourselves in body paint. Add in a few beers and before we knew it, we were ready to party!

The beach and side alleys were lined with endless bars. But these weren't your typical bars.

You order a drink and get it served in a massive bucket filled to the rim with booze and a splash of chaser. I ordered a vodka Red Bull to start the night.

Holy crap it was strong! In no time, I was buzzing and went off in search of the dance floor.

Every corner I turned, people were getting body painted. The ink glowed neon and looked amazing under the black light. I loved seeing everyone getting into the spirit of the party!

By midnight the party was in full swing. Everyone was slurping out of a bucket or two. House music pulsed throughout the crowded beach. Disco lights and the full moon illuminated the sky while grooving bodies piled on stages and dance floors.

Fire performers put on impressive shows and hypnotized those who walked by. I couldn't stop watching!

As the night wore on, things only started to get crazier. Some were even playing fire limbo! It was complete insanity! There's no way I'd ever have the guts to do this.

I drank buckets until I could hold no more and danced until my limbs gave out. The next morning, I had one of the worst hangovers of my life. I also woke up covered in smeared orange paint which I'm still finding in my hair to this day. It was all worth it though. Living up to its reputation, I can tell you now that the Full Moon Party is a must for every partier out there.

I’m a Canadian girl on a quest to step foot in every continent before I’m 30. You’ll most likely find me chowing down on Japanese ramen, partying at a music festival, hiking to the top of a scenic lookout, cuddling with cats, or chilling out at the beach. I’ve visited over 60 countries so far and hope to inspire you to do the same.

  1. Great photos! I've had the same experience with the party paint - it gets everywhere. And for anyone attending their first Full Moon Party, I would recommend taking it easy with the buckets - they're more lethal than you realise.
